(formerly bucks squash and racketball club)
We run two ladies' teams in the Bucks Squash League, with probably the most experienced grandmother playing competitive squash! At the other end of the scale, we have several female junior members from beginners to promising older players.
Squash? That's that highly strenuous game played exclusively by very fit young men who race around a court at high speed, right? A group of ladies from our club beg to differ - and they have proved their point. The team, including grannies (including one over 70) as well as schoolgirls, playing in the Buckinghamshire County League Division 2, won every one of their matches during the 2008/9 season and finished top of the League.
The age range of 55 years between the youngest and oldest team member did not stop the team having a great deal of fun – as well as playing some exciting squash. The squad of 9 players consists of: schoolgirl Sarah Wyatt, university student Elisha Walia, therapist Janet Copp, mothers Debbie Hill, Angie Stockwell, and Maria Power (with 8 children between them), captain Marian Holmes, and grannies Brenda Ede (with 1 daughter and 2 grandchildren) and Hazel Malpass (with 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren). Below is a photo of our all-conquering 2008/09 team.
So, ladies – if you fancy joining in this great way of getting exercise while you have fun, get in touch with us, and show those young men a thing or two! By the way, we also play racketball if you prefer something slightly less strenuous . It's great fun, and a great way to stay in shape. See the Membership page and / or Racketball page for more information.
